1.30pm, Friday 7 April
Ouyen District History & Genealogy Centre
The Old Courthouse, 77 Oke Street, Ouyen
FREE EVENT / ALL WELCOME.
We will meet at the Ouyen History Centre for a short introduction to our project, Spectral Ecologies and the history of cinema in Ouyen. We will then embark on a short walk visiting some of the sites where cinemas have operated in Ouyen before ending up at the Roxy where we invite you to share memories of cinema going in Ouyen and surrounds!
Refreshments will be served.
Please bring along your memories and any photos or memorabilia you would like to show!
We are excited that members of the Nulty Family will be in attendance. Nulty’s Pictures started screening films in Walpeup in the late 1920s before operating the Roxy and other cinemas in Ouyen and surrounds.
Presented as part of Spectral Ecologies at Mildura Arts Centre, which includes an exhibition at Mildura Arts Centre and free public events in Ouyen, Robinvale and Mildura.
Spectral Ecologies explores the Mallee through the idea of the “cinematic” by exploring the ways that the changing technologies and ecologies of cinema enable us to see, to experience and to engage with the region.
