The Golden Twin first opened its doors in 1975, screening the box office hit Jaws (1975, dir. Steven Spielberg, staring Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw.

The Golden Twin was operated by Village Cinemas and named ‘Golden Twin’ to reflect the fact that it had two screens to choose from – something that was unique in Bendigo.

In 1997, five additional screens were added to the cinema. And perhaps given it was no long just a ‘twin’ changed its name to Bendigo Cinemas. It was one of the first cinemas in Australia to turn completely to digital projection.

The cinema continues to operate its seven screens.
