Cinemoria: cinema memory event, 1-3pm Saturday 3 May

Celebrating the opening of –
Twin Cinema: Four Devils and a Woman in Red

Commissioned by NETS Victoria for The Cinemas Project, curated by Bridget Crone
Latrobe Regional Gallery 12 April – 8 June 2014

Come and share stories of local cinemas. And look over the large array of photos and objects that have been sourced for this special exhibition.

As former Morwell and Yallourn resident Matthew Shaw recalls
…when I was 17 in 1984 I stole a laminated poster of Kelly Lebrock from ‘The Woman in Red’ from the Morwell Twin cinemas and had her hanging over my bed for the next couple of years.

Lily Hibberd’s Twin Cinema – 4 Devils and a Woman in Red is an exhibition of remnants and memories from cinemas in the Gippsland region. Local stories, objects, posters and photographs from its surviving and lost cinemas are gathered here. Large-scale recreations of the empty screens of the disappeared theatres of Yallourn and the Morwell City Hall await projections of movie memories…

Twin Cinema – 4 Devils and a Woman in Red is presented as part of The Cinemas Project a state-wide programme of contemporary artworks that explore the spectral spaces of cinema in regional Victoria.
